SOON IS NOW: A One Day Festival of Climate Art, Live Performance and Activism

RESCHEDULED DUE TO WEATHER — NEW DATE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1st, 12pm-3:30pm

SOON IS NOW is an annual immersive day of climate change and eco-themed performance, art and activism set in Scenic Hudson's Long Dock Park in Beacon, NY. Performers and artists this year include: Raven Chacon, Alex Waterman, Bob Bellerue, Edwin Torres, Koyoltzintli, Twinkle Burke, Jojo Gonzalez, Jaanika Peerna, Camille Seaman, Jean Brennan, Steve Rossi, Andrew Brehm, Tom King, Jim Fletcher, Elise Knudson, Elisa Santiago and the Resistance Revival Chorus. This event is free and open to the public.

For the second year, Bedford 2030 is working with The Town of Bedford to reduce waste at the community event "Trifesta.” In addition to working with vendors to source more sustainable containers, we will educate the public about reuse, composting and recycling. Waste Warrior volunteers are needed to help the public in sorting the event waste correctly. Training will be provided and all volunteers will receive a food voucher for use at the festival!

A one and a half hour tour of our homestead including an introduction to home-scale biogas. Participants will see how small scale biogas has restored our soil, provides us with an abundance of cooking fuel, and is our go-to-method for recycling our organic residuals into fuel and fertilizer. Literature on how small scale biogas works will be available for participants to take home and light refreshments will be served.

These youth-led efforts have been a moral mobilizer in spite of being legally challenging. How do we translate constitutional rights into meaningful action to restore local environments and reverse patterns of injustice? What strategies will get results? How do we move out of playing defense and secure our rights to a healthy environment, both in court and at the local level?
