Book Discussion: The Serviceberry

  • Kingston Library 61 Crown Street Kingston, NY, 12401 United States (map)

While conversations about the environment can often feel heavy, there is still so much beauty, joy, and abundance to be found in the natural world. Join us for a hopeful and thought-provoking discussion of "The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World" by Robin Wall Kimmerer, in partnership with Wild Ones Mid-Hudson Valley. Wild Ones helps to transform yards, gardens, community spaces, and natural areas into vibrant havens for native plants and wildlife.

In this powerful essay, Kimmerer—botanist, member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, and author of Braiding Sweetgrass—asks us to reconsider our ideas of wealth and value. Through the humble serviceberry, she explores how true abundance grows not from accumulation, but from reciprocity, relationship, and care.

Wild Ones Mid-Hudson Valley will share ways to bring these ideas to life right here in our community, with practical tips for applying the book’s lessons to our local landscape. Let this conversation inspire a renewed sense of connection to each other and the land we share.

Free. No registration required.

Hosted by the Kingston Library in partnership with Wild Ones Mid-Hudson Valley.
